Mountain Music.

I'm not a particular fan of this type of music, but I just love everything about this.

  1. My mother-in-law Edythe is married to a man that likes this kind of music, North Carolina bluegrass. Once he took us to a concert at the NC history museum in Raleigh. When the players really started to tear it up, Edie looked at me with devilry in her eye and started to giggle....then I started to giggle....and pretty soon we were both struggling to contain ourselves! We just couldn't stop when the musicians were getting down like that! :)

Lou (her husband) wasn't really amused at our antics. Ha.

    1. The players in the clip all seem so 'deadpan', yet the music is very bouncy. They don't really seem to be enjoying themselves.

  2. My husband can play this type of music, which is vaguely similar to Irish jigs and reels which he plays with great verve. The music is played so fast that there is no time to smile and be jolly, because you have to hunker down and try and keep up with everyone else on whichever instrument you are playing!

    1. It's great to see a bunch of friends getting together like this. I wish I could play fiddle like that. Your husband must be welcomed everywhere.

  5. The energy from Bluegrass makes one happy. It is fun and you can't keep your toes from tapping.

  7. Great stuff.. I also have always loved " trad" jazz too. We used to go to a club a few years ago in Welwyn Garden City and all the musicians were in their 60s/70s even 80s. We fear that the music will die with them. None of the " bands" ever had a young person playing. I used to go to jazz on a Monday night in Leicester when I was in my late teens early 20s....all the greats used to play. Terry Lightfoot, Alex Welsh, Chris Barber, Ken Colyer to name but a few! We danced the night away.....best nights out ever!

    1. Back in the 60's I went to an Acker Bilk gig. It was really amazing. It was the first and last Jazz concert I've been to (apart from Ronnie Scott's, which was quite different).

    1. It sure does, and the 'clog dancing' that sometimes accompanies it, is great too.

  9. As I begin to make my way through wonderful posts that I have missed seeing (and hearing) during March, it was grand to come across this one. My youngest brother plays guitar and mandolin, but tells me that it is not really blue grass music that he loves. It is the blues.
